Open-ended waveguide
sections of this type produce a known radiation pattern (see measured pattern below), and
make an excellent probe for illuminating an unknown target antenna in near-field
measurements. The tapered end on this probe helps minimize diffraction effects. This type
of probe is especially well suited for planar scans, but can be used for other types of
scans as well.
