The function of the polymer element used in this antenna (see above) is to shape the radiation pattern and improve impedance matching. To see the radiation pattern of the circular waveguide alone click here.

Some uses for Polyrod antennas include feeds for metalic reflectors, loads to modify the radiation pattern of metal horns, and for radiating two different bands from a single antenna.
